Manuscript Submission

Forty Press just does not print books, we publish them. This is not a difference without a distinction. Printing a book requires sending digital files to a printer. Publishing requires managing talent, editing, cover design, setting up distribution channels, seeking reviews, public relations, and marketing that will generate a buzz for an author that creates sales. Even large publishers do not publish every book they print. At Forty Press we enter into a partnership with our authors not just to print their books, but to publish them.

Forty Press publishes general interest books, primarily in the mystery/thriller genre with plans to expand into select genres of fiction and non-fiction. Check our News page for announcements regarding new genres considered for publication.

For fiction submissions send a query letter, synopsis, and the first fifty pages. We will request more if we want more.

Non-fiction projects should be backed by your particular expertise and/or life experience. Ideally, authors should know who the target audience is for their work, and have a strong marketing platform geared to that audience, or be professional writers co-authoring with an expert. Send synopsis, bio, outline, and sample chapters. We will request more if we want more.

As part of your submission, please include:

  • Cover letter addressed to Nick Dimassis, Editorial Director (however submissions may be read by other manuscript reviewers)
  • Resume or brief biography emphasizing your literary accomplishments
  • List of credits and/or previous publications
  • Self-addressed envelope with adequate postage for a response and/or return of your materials
Submissions may be mailed to us at:

Though Forty Press will often suggest changes to a manuscript before offering a contract, your work should be well-edited and proofed prior to submission.

Due to the amount of submissions we receive, we may not be able to provide editorial feedback on declined manuscripts.
